Do Singaporeans dress badly?
Many times, when outdoors, I'd always find myself observing what strangers wear & of course, there're bound to be times where I'd secretly critisize their dressing & times where I'm dying to find out where they got their clothes from(Happens when I'm looking at blogs too.)
Therefore, I conclude that some Singaporeans have a disastrous dress sense while some have good dress sense. (Wide-scale: Average dress sense)
:)
For example, when we walk down Orchard Road (Or other parts of town) now, we'd often see girls wearing high-waisted dresses/skirts. We would also see them in sleeveless shirts with vests & demin cut shorts, ending off with slippers/pumps/heels/sandals.
Oh Oh! Another one. "Starbucks", "Heineken" & "Little Miss" T-shirts used to be so popular amongst us. Now, the trend is dying down, & Giordano comes out with another one, the "cheer you up" T-shirts. Just after a few days it had started selling, I see many on the streets wearing that. Typical dressing.
Now going on to guys.
They're often seen wearing a simple Tee, with berms & a pair of slippers. Well? When you read this, doesn't the familiar image just pop into your head? This just goes to show how often you see this. Though I feel that what all (young)Singaporeans are wearing now are all very common & similar, but I do not feel that these are examples of bad dressing.
{Typical. Taken by me.}
Bad dress sense!
What I feel was
really bad in the
recent past was that guys were actually wearing
superduper tight skinnies?(!) {Hey, mind your
that place okay.}
.
.
Not bad enough?
They purposely wear bright colours that are constantly begging for your attention!
.
.
STILL NOT BAD ENOUGH?
This is the ultimate. Altering it so that both sides of the skinnies are not of the same colour.
(Well, ain't offending those who did that, but... It's really not my style.)
Luckily, that flame is almost dead. Hah.
Another one, I can take people who try to dress themselves up like a nerd, by wearing geeky spectacles. But unfortunately, I don't really fancy those who buy them too large. Just a medium one will do alright. But that's sorta past thing, already, too (:
As for now, what really pisses me off is people who:
(1) Wear leggings but don't wear tops that are long enough to cover their butt. Whenever I see this, I feel so, so, so disgusted&uncomfortable. Once, I was crossing the road & I saw a girl wearing grey leggings that covered her butt 3/4. Omg, though I didn't really look at her *there, but it just catches my attention when the butt bounces(?) -_- . I feel that no matter how skinny or how plump you're, don't ever wear leggings that don't cover your butt. Because it really sucks. (No offence.)
(2) Yes, I know high-waist clothes are very hot right now. But don't go overboard with your fantasies with it. 2days ago, I saw 2-3 secondary school girls wearing their school U. & Guess what? They made it look high-waist(ed) by pulling their skirts high & tugging in their blouse. Well... It wasn't really a pleasant sight... Sigh.
Strike a comparison between Sg & other countries :)
As for a place in standing with other countries, I feel that Singapore would be placed in the middle. Those who can really dress up well can compete with foreigners (Though there are not many) . Places like Korea & the US are quite tough competitions. However, I do emphasis that not all people from those 2 countries can dress well. It depends on the individual (: .
Right now, Singapore's following trends from countries like Taiwan, Japan, Korea & English countries like Australia. Hopefully, we would be the country that people would follow next time :D !
Flip Flops.
&I feel that wearing flip flops out are ABSOLUTELY acceptable unless you're
Wearing formal dress, or any other kind of clothes that seriously cannot go with it.
Attending formal functions like wedding ceremony, etc.
Other than that, I really do support wearing slippers out (In your casuals) as Singapore is located in the tropics & currently quite badly affected by global warming.
What's more? Slippers are often our no.1 choice when we wanna go places like Sentosa, Escape Theme park, etc as it really brings much convenience to our life.
Although Heels, pumps, converse shoes, etc. may add more "feel" to our overall look, but they're purely just for looks& for matching clothes. When you are gonna walk a long distance, would you rather vainly choose to wear, for example, heels (Which encloses majority of your feet)? Or would you choose the simple pair of slippers that allow your skin to breathe air?
Lastly, (minor point) wearing slippers would enable you to show off your beautifully polished toe nails, like this! :D
Pyjamas Issue
I don't really quite like the idea of people going out in their pyjamas. Well, but if it's 4-5yr old lil children, I would gladly let them do so! :D . But for anyone older than that, I don't really approve of them wearing pyjamas out. (Pyjamas as in real Pyjamas, the long pants one uh) . But to speak of pyjamas, I don't really think Singapore has many people wearing pyjamas to sleep left. Now, we would just wear a shirt& a pair of shorts to sleep as the weather is really warm even at night!
-------Okay, back to topic. Imagine a, perhaps, 20yr old guy wearing a blue striped pyjamas, & he's walking down Orchard Road. What would you think of it?
My 1st impression would be. "What the? Why is he here in this kind of outfit?"
I bet he'd recieve many curious stares.
2nd thought, "Attention-seeking guy -_-!"
Hah.
& of course, I feel that if many Singaporeans wear their pyjamas out, it would be quite a disgrace to our country. Foreigners who witness Singaporeans would feel suprised & perhaps think " Oh dear, Why is my choice of vacation like that?" "Are their dress sense really that bad?" "Do they think that they're looking cool/cute?" It may affect our tourism rates & economy as it's really weird to go to a place where you thought you can enjoy, but instead, you recieve a shock of your life!
Pyjama Shot! :D
I feel that although there're many disapprovals in my opinion of dressing, however, we cannot fully say what's bad & what's good dressing. Maybe in people's mind, they want to stand out & they're tryna be unique. & moreover, there are different views regarding "What makes a dressing good?" (Even sometimes, I'd find a TV star's dressing bad. Therefore, It's not suprising that even us, commoners would do such mistakes ! )
